1. Cosmic Guesthouse
Every bit as stellar as the name suggests, including rooms which feature direct phones, color TV and fantastically, free Wifi. Rooms, while small, are a cut above the white walled Hong Kong average, with some small splashes of Ikea design thrown in.

2. Garden Hostel

3. Sailsbury YMCA
Sailsbury is completely unlike the usual hostel experience, equal to one of the better three-star hotels in the city, or even some four-stars. The Sailsbury boasts excellent service, an excellent harborside location, spacious rooms and more. While the hostel is great value, its is not cheap, and the price can be a major drawback for those counting their dollars.

4. Dragon Hostel
One of the most lauded Hong Kong hostels, with over fifteen years in the business and plenty of happy customers. The Dragon Hostel boasts 24hr check-in and check out, as is fitting in HK, as well as a host of extra services, such as Chinese and Vietnamese visa assistance and sightseeing tours. Rooms are bare, but clean, with singles and doubles, but no dorms.

5. Travellers Hostel
Mixed reviews from one of Hong Kong’s longest established hostels, with extra points for the laid back communal feel, including a shared kitchen, large dorms and a lounge, but negatives include, rooms that haven’t had a lick of paint since the 60’s, and at times overcrowding.
