Cheapest Hotel in Hong Kong

Which is Hong Kong's Cheapest Hotel

By , About.com Guide

Below you’ll find our picks of the cheapest hotels in Hong Kong, but, before we start, a few disclaimers. Yes, there are probably cheaper places to bed down in Hong Kong than the listings below, but we have tried to steer clear of locations which feature cockroaches crawling around your underwear or rats nibbling at your toes, as well as the many, many places which have a reputation for swindling their guests.

That said, expect to sweat it out without air con and stay in rooms only slightly smaller than your wardrobe at home. The stays below are primarily guesthouses/hostels. If you’re looking for bonafida hotels, take a look at our Hong Kong hotels for under $75 list.

THE cheapest hotel in Hong Kong

The cheapest ‘hotels’ in Hong Kong are still the shabby guesthouses of the ‘in’ famous Chungking Mansions and Mirador Mansions, where private rooms for HK$200 are perfectly feasible. Be warned, while the potential to end up in a hell hole in these two buildings is much less than it once was, screaming neighbours, missing mattresses and con men owners are still a real problem. Always check out a location, before booking.

The best priced private, double in a guesthouse we’ve seen is the New Hawaii Guesthouse (A Block, 14 Floor, Room 6 & 7. tel: +852 2366-6127 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting              +852 2366-6127      end_of_the_skype_highlighting), which was offering doubles for as little as HK$150, depending on the power of your negotiation skills. Expect a room with no windows, two single beds pushed together and pretty much nothing else, including any floor space. Cosmic Guesthouse, which is a slice above your average Hong Kong guesthouse, has doubles for under HK$200. Anything in Chungking Mansions or Mirador is right in the heart of Tsim Sha Tsui on Nathan Road.

Cheapest Hotel in Hong Kong from Zuji

If you’re going to book through an online agent, which is generally cheaper than booking direct in Hong Kong, Zuji.com offers the best prices on beds in the city. Their cheapest stay is the YWCA Anne Black. The name might suggest dormitories, lights out at 10p.m. and groups of eager scout groups building teepees in the garden, however the Anne Black is a low cost hotel aimed squarely at budget conscious grown ups of both sexes. Rooms are large and do offer a TV and air con, if little else, and you’ll also find a laundrette onsite. For their cheapest prices you’ll need to brave the communal bathrooms, but reports say their regularly cleaned and there is rarely a queue. One complaint is the 10-15 minute walk to the nearest MTR subway at Mongkok. Hardly an Artic trek, but considered a crime in centralised Hong Kong.
