Hong Kong Heritage Museum has received an embarrassment of praise since its opening, and thankfully it's all well deserved. As the biggest museum in Hong Kong, it features a wide selection of exhibits, many of them interactive. It is alos the best place in the territory to soak up some knowledge on the history and culture of the New Territories.
The highlight of the museum is the permanent History of the New Territories exhibition, a fascinating and thorough insight into the area, from roaming dinosaurs to roaming Brits. Here you'll find out about the development of the region, charting the change from rural life to cities.
Museums have a habit of being decidedly boring for kids, and if yours look like they'll start an uprising if they see another piece of wood in a glass cabinet, rush them to the Children's Discovery Gallery. The gallery features a potted history of local toys - most of which are hands-on; they’ll be having so much fun they won't even realize they're learning.
The museum also includes a number of other permanent exhibitions: such as the colorful Cantonese Opera Hall and some first-class Chinese art. In addition, the museum also runs a number of themed exhibitions that frequently rotate.
