The Fringe Club

Rory Boland
The Fringe Club Built in 1913, this stucco, colonial style building served as an Ice House, strong ice shipped in from Canada and Northern China in an attempt y the British to fen of the formidable heat. After a brief stint during the Japanese Occupation as a morgue the building fell into disrepair. With the sound of the wrecking ball heading its way, an arts body named the Fringe Club stepped in and saved the building. It's now a thriving arts centre holding regular, plays, music and art, and central to supporting the local arts scene. If you're thirsty they have an excellent roof garden - which is ideal for a beer. Attached to the building is the Foreign Correspondents Club, a centre for the regions English language media, diplomats and other bigwigs. 1 Ice House Street
