Guangzhou hotels have come on leaps and bounds in recent years and there is very decent selection of properties in town. Local hotels have shrugged off their reputation for floundering service and failing plug sockets but it’s fair to say that the best hotels in Guangzhou, with the most reliable standards of quality and service, remain international brands. The top five we’ve picked represent five of the best in different star ratings, and we’ve sacrificed some of the big boy luxury hotels, such as the Ritz Carlton, to fit in those that are available on a more modest budget, such as the Holiday Inn. We've listed addresses and the nearest metro. Guangzhou is a big, sprawling city with some very different and separate districts and you'll need to decide which location is best suited to your trip.
Remember, if you are visiting the Canton Fair, exhibitions still occasionally take place in two locations in the city, depending on the products. Most, and soon all, exhibitions will take place at the Pazhou Complex (near to the Shangri La). The fair is on the Guangzhou metro but many hotels will run shuttle buses to the complex during the fair which is very convenient. Most of the hotels listed here should offer shuttle bus services but it is always worth checking ahead.
