Review of Novotel Hong Kong

The Novotel Hong Kong is one of the best value budget stays in town. The Novotel Hong Kong’s facilities are more than match their four star billing with features such as in room wifi and a rooftop swimming pool. The only real drawback, major or minor depending on your aesthetic sensitivity, is the décor, which fails to really fire past office style pine and glass fittings. Price wise, you won’t find a cheaper four star in town and the central Wan Chai location puts you right in the heart of the action.

If you’re looking to save a wad of cash on your accommodation, without losing the bells and whistles of a four star hotel, the Novotel Hong Kong is the perfect stay.

Set right in the heart of Wan Chai, the Novotel has all the amenities and facilities of more price tag heavy four stars in town. Highlights include an outdoor, rooftop swimming pool and excellent fitness centre. In room you’ll find cable TV, twenty four hour room service and wifi access (extra). There is also a pair of decent restaurants on site.

Unfortunately, the four star style runs out of steam at the decor. The Novotel can’t quite stand up to the cutting edge design of other four stars and the glass and metal can make it feel like you’re punching into an office block. Rooms are an uninspiring mix of cheap looking pine and gaudy peach curtains, nevertheless, they’re unfailingly modern and by no means offensive. Those who value their lungs should be aware that the smell of nicotine hangs in the air on a couple of floors, and the hotel is only half non smoking.

The Novotel is, as always, excellent for families with kids in tow. Two under 16s stay free, if they stay in their parent’s room. Breakfast is also free. The Novotel also has family sized rooms which can sleep two adults and two kids. Late check out and video games available from reception are more bonuses.
