Clubs in Hong Kong

the Top Five Clubs in Hong Kong

By

Clubs in Hong Kong are some of the best in Asia and whether you feel like clinking glasses with people from the pages of Vogue or dancing until the sun comes up, you’ll find a place for you and your dancing shoes. The top five Hong Kong clubs below are a mixture of everything, from the most exclusive to the most refined and everything in between.

You should, however be aware that many of the clubs in Hong Kong operate a Judge Dredd like door policy and it’s often worth calling ahead to try and get your name on the guest list or at least arrive early, if you want to get in.

1. Dragon-I

If you believe the hype, this is Hong Kong’s hottest dancefloor; if you don’t, it’s where clubbers with more money than sense come to waste it – and you’ll hear both opinions in Hong Kong. Perched above the party district of Lan Kwai Fong, the interior is a sharp, designer fusion of Asian and New York influences, such as secluded booth style seating and seductive lantern lighting. Although, it’s worth pointing out that the club has a bizarre policy of keeping live birds in cages throughout the club; PETA has pointed out the lights and loud music make the practice cruel to the birds but Dragon-I refuses to budge. If you’re planning a visit, be sure to plan ahead and get on the uber exclusive guest list.

2. FINDS

Set in the heart of Lan Kwai Fong, FINDS attracts a more mature crowd that manages to be hip without needing to flaunt it. The Scandinavian theme means an understated design with simple woods, clean lines and light colors, topped off by an expansive balcony with views of the party crowds on the streets of Lan Kwai Fong. FINDS does feature top draw DJ’s at the weekend, although the emphasis here is on socialising which is helped by the expertly mixed cocktails.

3. M1NT

Amongst the many exclusive clubs in town, M1NT is arguably the King, with a door policy stricter than the Freemasons. This members only club is inspired by the original in London and if you want to join, you’ll need to stump up a Swiss size chunk of your bank account. M1NT does, however, have nights which are open to non-members. The club itself is a palace, featuring a 32,000 piece crystal chandelier, Damien Hirst paintings and live black tip sharks in an aquarium, while the guest list reads like the line-up at Madame Tussauds.

4. Dusk Till Dawn

If you’re sick of having your belt and shoes sneered at by the Robocops at most of Hong Kong’s clubs, Dusk till Dawn is a slice of down and dirty, unpretentious fun. Packed at weekends by locals, expats and stop-over flight crews, the whole bar is transformed into one big dance floor as the crowd writhes around to jaw droppingly good Filipino bands churning out the top hits of the last twenty years.

5. Volar

If you’re more interested in music than striking peacock poses, Volar boasts some of the best DJs in the business, both resident and imported, and a crowd dedicated to dancing until they fall down. The curved subterranean basement makes for an atmospheric, if sweaty, dance floor with the crowds piling in after 12a.m.. The door policy is strict but not drastic, and as long as you arrive early enough you’ll find yourself bumping elbows with the sheiks, and celebs Volar attracts.
