Guide Review - Lord Stow's Egg Tarts

Undoubtedly the most famous egg tart maker in the World, Lord Stow’s success is in large part due to aggressive marketing. However, this tiny Macau bakery still turns out some of the tastiest versions of egg tarts in the world.

Somewhat surprisingly, the man behind Lord Stowe’s is not Portuguese, not even Macanese, he is in fact English. Andrew Stow opened his famous bakery was back in 1989, with locals attracted to his selection of fresh western bread.

Stow’s egg tarts mix the best of the original Portuguese Pasteis de Nata with some classic English touches. While Stow refuses to divulge the secret behind his tart tarts, the pastry is considered heavier than the Portuguese version and the egg mix itself sweeter.

Lord Stowe’s location, pitched out on Coloane island, is not ideal, but if you’re in Macau the trip out to the bakery is well worth it.
