What Are the Business Hours in Hong Kong

By Rory Boland, About.com

Question: What Are the Business Hours in Hong Kong
Answer:

Business hours in Hong Kong are nowhere near as straightforward as those in the US, UK or Australia with far more variation. Make sure you aren’t left out in the cold with the information below.

Business Hours in Hong Kong for Shops

Shops are the worst culprits for operating completely random business hours, although there is some method in the madness. The standard operating hours for shops should be considered 10a.m.-7p.m., however, in many districts opening hours are much, much longer. In Causeway Bay, Tsim Sha Tsui and Mongkok expect shops to open as late as 10p.m., Wan Chai and Western District shops also operate later hours. Markets in Mongkok and Yau Ma Tei often don’t start operating until 3p.m. or 3p.m. and don’t turn the lights out until 11p.m.

Business Hours in Hong Kong for Offices

Offices tend to work more regulated hours, usually between 9a.m.-5/6p.m., although in reality many, if not most, Hong Kongers, will work on until 7p.m. This is normal working practice. Hong Kongers also work a half day Saturday, from 9.am. until 1p.m., although the government is trying to phase this out.
