Naughty Guangdong

While Hong Kong may not be part of Guangdong administratively this Cantonese province is the city's spiritual and cultural home.

With a bigger GDP than Turkey and more people than any other province in China, Guangzhou is the country's economic powerhouse. Just look at the half finished skyscrapers that fill the skylines of Guangzhou, Shenzhen and dozens of other smaller cities.

But Guangdong hasn't always been the Crown Prince of the Chinese family- in fact Guangdong has more historically been associated with cabals and coups. From the end of the Imperial dynasties to the rise of China as an economic powerhouse, Guangdong has rarely been out of the headlines.
