After keeping nearly 800 passengers suspended in the air for the best part of two hours, the Ngong Ping Cable Car on Lantau Island has itself been suspended for up to two months for maintenece.
In echoes of its opening month teething troubles, the ride ground to halt in early January, stranding hundreds of passengers in mid-air. Engineers now plan to overhaul the bullwheel bearings before reopening the ride, while stressing that passengers were never in danger.
It's another dose of bad PR for Ngong Ping which suffered a series of mechanical problems in its opening year but had recently been running smoothly. The Ngong Ping village remains open although as you'll see from our Ngong Ping village review it's not really worth a visit.
