Boasting twice the atmosphere of title fight night in Vegas  and at a tenth of the price, the Horse Races at Hong Kong's Happy Valley are, alongside the sea of skyscrapers, one of the city's truly spectacular sights. The world class races here attract tens of thousands of eager spectators to drink cheap beer, eat bad hot dogs and try and punt their money on something faster than a donkey.

The season got underway on September 5th and runs through until June. While the weekend races in Sha Tin are also entertaining, for the full experience head to Happy Valley's night races on Wednesdays. The bright lights of the skyscrapers that surround the course lend it a grandstand buzz and it attracts fewer empty-out-the-ATM gamblers and more socialisers looking for a night out on the town.
