Hong Kong Set For More Days at the Races
It seems Hong Kongers just can’t get enough horse racing. In the face of increasingly stiff competition from the bright lights and casinos in Macau, the Hong Kong Government is letting the Hong Kong Jockey Club throw five extra horse racing meets into its yearly schedule. This means the gee gee crazy Hong Kong public can enjoy a day at the track from September to July. It also means an extra HK$500 million in the pockets of the Hong Kong government from tax revenue.
If you haven’t been to the Hong Kong horse races at Happy Valley, it really is a must, whether you like a flutter or not. This is one of the world’s greatest sporting spectacles, with a heaving mass of manic punters screaming on their chosen horse, while spilling plastic cup beers and ripping up their race form guides into confetti. The real attraction, however, is the location. Buried amongst a sea of skyscrapers, the night time races at Happy Valley shine under this urban spotlight and you’ll want a fully loaded camera to capture the experience.
