Hong Kong Disneyland On the Up – Just!
Hong Kong Disneyland looks like it is finally starting to fire up its engines. The park has consistently missed its attendance targets each year since its opening in 2005. However, it is being reported that attendance is likely to hit 5.6 million for 2008, this was the park’s 2005 target. It may not be skyrocketing but at least things are on the up. Better publicity and a larger, if only slightly, selection of rides is to thank to for the upswing.
Part owned by Disney and part by the Hong Kong government, the two are currently locking horns over financing for a much needed expansion of the park. Aside from its size problems, the park has been riddled with publicity own goals, such as putting Shark Fin soup on its menu. However, the poor figures are also due in part to a resurgent Ocean Park. You can see exactly why Ocean Park is leading Mickey and Co in our article Ocean Park vs Hong Kong Disneyland.
