Making a Splash at the Tin Hau Festival.

Friday May 4, 2007

One of Hong Kong’s most colorful festivals falls on May 9th, and although it isn’t a public holiday, it’s still well worth checking out.

Tin Hau is revered as the Godess of the Sea, and each year Hong Kong’s large sea-faring community of fishermen and sailors gather at Tin Hau's temples to pay homage to her. The festival itself is bursting with color and noise, Tin Hau temples are packed with worshippers laden with goods as offering while playing drums, watching dragon dances and decorating the temple with host of flags and streamers.
