Ferrying About Hong Kong

Monday January 29, 2007

Taking a trip on the Star Ferry is a must-do activity in Hong Kong. This venerable institution has been ferrying people between Kowloon and Hong Kong Island for over 100 years, and is still part of the daily commute for many people. The ferries themselves aren't 100 years old, but they do still have a rustic charm; and combined with the gangways, uniformed seamen and wooden seating - the Star Ferry is full of character. Not only is the Star Ferry one of Hong Kong's best-loved institutions, but it's also a bargain, with journeys costing less than $1.

You can see the Star Ferry in all its glory in our Star Ferry Picture Gallery.

I adore the Star Ferry and actually think there is something very romantic about it, even though it can be very crowded at times. A not to be missed Hong Kong experience!
