Las Vegas of the East

Wednesday January 24, 2007
If you're spending more than just a few days in Hong Kong, you owe it to yourself to discover some of the cities that lie just an hour from the city. The most popular port of call is Macau which has garnered itself the nickname 'Las Vegas of the East', thanks to the explosion of casinos there. Last year the city actually overtook Vegas as the worlds biggest gambling destination. Of course that's not all there is to do, the city has a rich Portuguese history, and it's great to spend a day wandering through the streets and squares. Our What to Do in Macau guide will make sure you see the best the city has to offer. Like Hong Kong Macau is a SAR of China, and many of the same rules apply. Before visiting Macau, check out our Travel Planner, where you'll find reaching this new tourist hot spot couldn't be easier

I just saw videos of Macau’s casinos on the news the other day. While it’s amazing, I would have to travel so far and feel like I’ve never left the U.S. Thanks for pointing out other features of Macau to see.
